Okay, so I’m not going to answer that anonymous because of the rudeness and nerve, but I do think it’s important to address the general topic of what was being said. So, for the edification of the people:
Faeries are nice!! Why is Freydis so mean? This isn’t accurate!
Actually, most of the folklore surrounding faeries tells you how to protect yourself from their malice. While varying through European culture in characteristics and being, the one thing that links the cultures is the idea that the wee folk are mischievous, malevolent tricksters.
In fact, kidnapping appears A LOT in lore:
A considerable amount of lore about fairies revolves around changelings, fairy children left in the place of stolen human babies. Older people could also be abducted; a woman who had just given birth and had yet to be churched was considered to be in particular danger.
Why does Freydis look more inhuman now than a year ago?
A year ago, I had an idea in my head that I wanted a faerie character and while uncreative and a little boring, I went for the modern portrayal of the small humanoid creature with wings. If you’ll notice, I barely had her accent down and other things that have become ground into her development back then, too. Over time, however, I grew to love the idea that she was something that was pretty-but-wasn’t and it was Mel who said she saw Freydis with translucent insectoid-patches on the back of her.
I went with it because not only does it seem aesthetically pleasing and something I’m proud to have as part of her character, but it speaks volumes on her forced humanity. It’s there as kind of a permanent reminder that the girl you’re talking to is a thing. Tbh, it spoke volumes on a developmental scale.
Recently, Che said that Freydis struck her as a creature that liked the way humans look, so she became a caricature of them when trying to emulate their appearance. If you’ve been with me this long and know anything about me as a person and a writer, you can absolutely imagine why I am giddy over that entire idea.(Mostly because it’s AMAZING!!! and the NATURE OF IT!!!! and NATURE CHANGING ITS APPEARANCE AT WILL TO EVOLVE WITH THE TIMES!!!)
Robert Kirk wrote about the appearance of faeries in 1691 (which may or may not be applied to Freydis in the future):
"These Siths or Fairies they call Sleagh Maith or the Good People…are said to be of middle nature between Man and Angel, as were Daemons thought to be of old; of intelligent fluidous Spirits, and light changeable bodies (lyke those called Astral) somewhat of the nature of a condensed cloud, and best seen in twilight. These bodies be so pliable through the sublety of Spirits that agitate them, that they can make them appear or disappear at pleasure."
And that’s okay! Brian Froud (the Almighty) wrote in his book Faeries that the fae weigh their attraction and beauty with deformity and flaws. This naturally reinforces the idea that all faeries look a little inhuman simply because that’s how their kind is.
It’s a change in personal aesthetics, really.
Freydis is hot-tempered, goes out of her way to fuck with you, always cynical…
Stop stop stop stop stop. It’s been my fault because of how I’ve portrayed her, but actually Freydis is tame in temper due to her beaten down sense of wrath/vengeance and wouldn’t actually go out of her way to mess with anyone unless she thought there was a chance it would benefit her. The thing with something like Freydis is (and I can’t stress this enough) the years she’s spent living (alone, technically) have made her wizened to the ways of humanity. Like all creatures who have been forced to live with these relatively new creatures, she has seen how expendable and fragile we are; she knows mortality is our destiny. Naturally being a faerie who thinks she’s a cut above the inferiors for being one, Freydis has adopted and perfected the “I don’t care until you prove why I should” mentality.
Basically, if you came up to her because you think she’s completely antagonistic and lives to ruin your life, she’ll look at you and tell you to get away from her. Really.
And adding onto that, I return to the aforementioned notion of if it’s beneficial to her. SERIOUSLY??? she only raises hell because of three important things:
That’s my fault for portraying her and I’ll work on it.
So now you hopefully know a bit more and have taken away the knowledge of faeries and my character!
Some quick updates!
We have until the 8th to be out of this place which means seldom visits online. Going to try and get internet hooked up but who knows how long that’ll be? I’m possibly looking at being back around the 22nd with hopefully being back fully at/around the end of March/beginning of April.
Thanks for being patient!
In light of my personal living situation rearing its ugly head, this account as well as all my other accounts are being placed on indefinite hiatus until I and my family have financial security. With this being said (though it’d probably kill my soul to know it), you’re free to unfollow because there probably won’t be any roleplaying posts or anything of the sort for a while.
I’m deeply sorry to have inconvenienced all of you with this and I hope to be back soon or completely resolved quickly within a matter of time and be back with an internet connection soon — but, let’s face it, even I don’t have very high hopes for that.
So, this account is placed on hiatus with possibly a few roleplay posts before I have to actually face real life and personal demons and eviction. For those that know me, I got AIM and I’m never on Skype. I check my Facebook like it’s a bible and I’ve got Twitter where I’m a sarcastic asshole and apathetic little thing.
I’ll be around here checking in but if you’d like any of this contact information, don’t be afraid to hit me up or anything. More than happy to give you my number or my screenname. If I stop talking to you halfway through though, I hope you’ll keep an open mind because I get burnt out on talking to people and need time to recuperate.
I love you all and thank you so much for being with me and for those that ‘ll still be with me when/if I get back.
